Piazza di Villa Wolkonsky, 1
Dal 25/03/2023 al 26/03/2023
DELEGAZIONE FAI DI ROMA
EVENTO IN PRESENZA
1951 represented a pivotal year in the history of the villa. In fact, this was the year when it passed into the ownership of the British government, and the then Princess Elizabeth arrived for the first time on a trip to Italy, a few months before being crowned queen of the United Kingdom. The visit, which is completely unprecedented, underlines the great cultural partnership between Italy and Britain, from Shakespeare to the present day, as it is clear from Italians’ love for London and the British music and Britons' appreciation of the Italian lifestyle. On the occasion, participants will be able to visit the stately halls of the villa and, above all, walk along the park's avenues, discovering both the course of the aqueduct dating back to Nero and the artifacts found among the rose gardens and framed as true "natural" paintings. At the end of the visit, participants will be shown the Victorian greenhouse from the late 19th century, where the most valuable pieces of the “Wolkonsky” archaeological collection are kept.
